Quran Reflection

The Apostle believeth in what hath been revealed to him from his Lord, as do the men of faith. Each one (of them) believeth in Allah, His angels, His books, and His apostles. “We make no distinction (they say) between one and another of His apostles.” And they say: “We hear, and we obey: (We seek) Thy forgiveness, our Lord, and to Thee is the end of all journeys.” (2:285)

The Apostle believeth in what hath been revealed to him from his Lord, as do the men of faith. Each one (of them) believeth in Allah, His angels, His books, and His apostles. “We make no distinction (they say) between one and another of His apostles.”

“Lord, I believe in all that you have given us in guidance. To believe in the unseen, to follow that which I have not beheld with my senses requires me to surrender my desires and my pride for the sake of being counted amongst those who believe. The brotherhood of the Prophets is but one brotherhood, what I believe in God’s oneness is the same message preached, and followed to those long before me. When I believe, I believe in the creed of Jesus, Moses, Jacob and our Father Abraham. I am not alone.”

And they say: “We hear, and we obey:

“I have indeed heard your calling, I have through my human frailty responded with sincerity to the commands and prohibitions which you have enjoined upon humanity. I do not understand everything, but I obey knowing that you know what is best for your creation.”

(We seek) Thy forgiveness, our Lord,

“I am but a human, and where I fall short, where I neglect a duty, where my character does not exemplify the Prophetic example, when I question what was revealed, forgive me. Forgive me for my weakness in responding to your call for verily you are the Most Forgiving and Most Merciful.”

To Thee is the end of all journeys

“With all the attention I pay to others, with the responsibility I have as a faith leader, I am ultimately responsible only to you. I must remember that nothing and nobody accompanies me to my grave save my faith. With all the distractions I experience in this life, I must remind myself that you are my final destination.”

Amen
